Sognefjord – Accessible for Everyone
Is the Sognefjord Region Accessible for People with Disabilities?
The Sognefjord is Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, and it is open to everyone who wishes to experience it, regardless of their abilities. Accessible tourism around the fjord is about creating safe, inclusive and enjoyable experiences, allowing everyone to experience a sense of achievement and joy.
We have created this page to make it easier for you to find accessible activities, attractions, accommodation and dining experiences throughout the region.

Whether you want to feel the thrill of a high-speed RIB safari across the fjord, relax on a peaceful fjord cruise, or get close to nature from a kayak, there are opportunities for many different needs and interests.
We offer a wide range of accommodation options, from historic hotels to more budget-friendly alternatives, with options to suit different preferences and requirements.
The Sognefjord is more than a destination – it is a place where everyone should be able to experience community, nature and adventure.
Transport
The Sognefjord region can be reached by train, boat, bus and air.
The Bergen Railway (Bergensbanen) offers wheelchair spaces and accessible toilets. Assistance can be booked for boarding and disembarking. The transfer between the Bergen Railway and the Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) at Myrdal is well adapted, with a short distance between the trains and step-free access between the platforms.
The Flåm Railway provides boarding ramps and spacious carriages, making it possible for many visitors to experience one of the world’s most spectacular train journeys.
Sogndal Airport is small and easy to navigate, making travel straightforward. Assistance is available upon arrival and departure.
Express boat from Bergen
The express boats operating from Flåm, Sogndal, Leikanger, Balestrand and Vik are also accessible for wheelchair users.
Once you arrive in the Sognefjord region, several car rental companies offer suitable vehicles for travellers using manual wheelchairs who wish to explore the fjord villages independently. Many taxi companies also operate larger vehicles capable of transporting electric wheelchairs.
Suggested Round Trip: Oslo – Sognefjord
The route Oslo – Flåm – Aurland – Lærdal – Sogndal – Balestrand – Bergen, or alternatively Sogndal – Oslo, demonstrates that it is possible to experience much of the region with accessible and enjoyable stops along the way, particularly when good information is available and the journey is planned in advance.
