How to Get to Finse? 

Finse is the highest station on the Bergen Railway and can only be reached by train, unless you choose to hike, cycle, or ski. There is no road access to Finse.

The train journey takes just over 2 hours from Bergen and around 4 hours from Oslo. If you are travelling by car, you can park at Voss, Ål, or Haugastøl and continue by train. The journey from Voss takes just over 1 hour, from Ål around 1 hour, and from Haugastøl approximately 20 minutes.

Via Flåm

From Flåm, you can take the famous Flåm Railway to Myrdal and transfer to the Bergen Railway for the short journey to Finse. The Flåm Railway is considered one of Europe's most spectacular train journeys, connecting Flåm on the Aurlandsfjord with Myrdal on the Bergen Railway.

The Bergen Railway

Travelling to Finse by train is an experience in itself. The Bergen Railway offers breathtaking scenery throughout the year, taking you from Oslo or Bergen across the mountain plateau to Finse, close to the famous Rallarvegen cycling route and the Hardangerjøkulen glacier.

Bringing Your Bicycle

Special bicycle carriages are available on selected trains. If you bring your own bike, you must purchase a bicycle ticket through Vy. If you rent a bicycle from Hotel Finse 1222, you can collect it in Finse and return it in Flåm.

Things to Do in Finse?

Finse is a year-round destination with activities for all ages. Winter usually lasts from December until the end of May, offering excellent opportunities for mountain skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, kite skiing, and guided excursions. DNT Finsehytta and Hotel Finse 1222 also offer courses, expedition training, yoga sessions, and outdoor equipment rental.

When the snow melts, new adventures await. Cycle the famous Rallarvegen, join a glacier hike on Hardangerjøkulen, explore the surrounding mountains, or visit the Rallar Museum. During summer, you can also experience events such as Finsefest.

DNT Finsehytta is located 1,223 metres above sea level, between Hardangervidda National Park and the Skarvheimen mountain range. Easily accessible by train, it is an excellent base for hiking, cycling along Rallarvegen, glacier walks, and skiing adventures. The lodge offers simple accommodation with shared bathrooms and facilities, suitable for both individuals and groups.
