It's easy to get around in the Sognefjord. You can buy tickets for day excursions and round trips by public transport, and get across the fjord with a fjord cruise. It is also easy to get around by car. You can buy maps at the Tourist Informations.
Getting to the Sognefjord
This innermost half of the Sognefjord lies in the centre of Southern Norway on the border between the Eastern and Western parts of the country.
In previous times, travelling on the fjord itself was virtually the only way of getting to the area, but modern roads have gradually made it easy to get here from all parts of the country. Nowadays, if you choose one of the shortest routes to the fjord, it is only a 2 to 3-hour drive from Bergen, 4 to 5 hours from Oslo and 5 to 6 hours from Trondheim.

If you wish to rent your own car during your stay, there are a some rental offices in the region. You may also rent a yacht, a small boat, a bike or camping gear to fullfill your holiday dream in Sognefjord.

By Boat & Ferry
All year round modern express boats run daily from Bergen to Sogndal and stop along the fjord at Vik, Balestrand and Leikanger.
From the 1st May to 30th September there is also a daily boat service from Bergen all the way to Flåm. The boat to Flåm also connects with ferries to Gudvangen, Kaupanger and Laerdal. This is a charming part of the route. For timetables see

By Bus & Coach
Comfortable express buses run daily to and from the Sognefjord region all year round. The city of Sogndal is the main transport hub in the area. While on board the express busses you can relax and take in the view.

By Car
It is easy to get to the Sognefjord by car from every part of Norway, and you can choose between many different routes. Driving one of the many scenic mountain routes leading to the fjord gives you the opportunity to experience amazing scenery while you are still on your way here. Once here, modern roads with tunnels and car ferries make it easy to get around the area.

By Plane
Widerøe has several daily flights from Oslo and Bergen direct to Sogndal Airport all year round. Flights take about 30 minutes from Bergen and 45 minutes from Oslo. There are also several other routes to and from Sogndal.
On a clear day, the approach across the Sognefjord to Sogndal Airport is in itself a great experience so make sure you book a window seat.
