Balestrand - culture and history
Balestrand also offers a number of cultural attractions, including the Kvikne's Hotel, a historic building dating back to 1877, and the St. Olaf Church, a 17th-century wooden church. Balestrand is also home to the The Norwegian Museum of Travel and Tourism. The fruit growing is a big industry, and Ciderhuset is famous for making high class international award winning Cider.
In the 19th century, Balestrand became an important center for the Norwegian Romantic Movement.
Painters and writers were drawn to the area, including the famous Norwegian painter and composer Edvard Grieg.
