The Sognefjord region in winter

For an active holiday or weekend, the region Sogn is the destination worth visiting. In the Norwegian fjord landscape, activity possibilities are endless. In winter, with easy access to the mountains and quiet surroundings; Sogndal, Jostedalen and Fjaerland has evolved to become a mecca for alpine ski touring.

The village of Sogndal has the comfort and convenience of tourists for years, and in addition to activities, the destination offers accommodation in different classes and for different interests. Sogndal Lodge for example, tailors its accommodation for skiers and mountaineers.

Difficulty: Moderate; You need to have basic skills in offpiste downhill skiing and have a reasonable physical condition.

Detailed program

DAY 1 Arrival day in Sogndal. We meet for a three course dinner at the hotel. Your local guide will join you and inform about the conditions in the mountains and the trips to come. We will also check the equipment and make a plan for the following day.

DAY 2 We start of with a shorter hike. Although short, we visit some of the finest peaks around Sogndal with beautiful descents.

DAY 3 We plan for a longer trip to a peak that provides beautiful view of the Sognefjord. The descent will be chosen based on the current snow conditions and stability. We might be able to ski all the way down to the fjord and if the conditions are perfect, we might be able to enjoy 1400 vertical meters of skiing!

DAY 4 This day we plan to utilize the ski lift in Sogndalsdalen to access some of the finest lines in the valley. The combination of ski lift and some hiking will make it possible to do several trips in one day.

DAY 5 We are now ready for a new hike to one of the bigger mountains in the valley. Today, we focus on steeper descents and beautiful scenery, all depending on the current snow conditions. At the end of the day you will have finalized four days of glorious skiing!
