Jølster is the central point in Sogn og Fjordane that connects Sunnfjord, Sogn and Nordfjord. The 30 km long Lake Jølster is the natural centre of the area. Folk music is important in Jølster, which is home to many great musicians. Jølster has long traditions for glacier guiding and glacier hiking. These traditions are well kept and as important today as before. Guided glacier hikes at the glacier Haugabreen in Stardalen are attractive hikes in spectacular nature. The area offers rich fresh water fishing, rafting, golf, skiing, glaciers, trail, art and cultural heritage. The painter Nikolai Astrup lived most of his life in Jølster and many of the motifs in his art is from Jølster. Many consider Jølster to have the best lake for trout fishing in Norway, and Jølstra-trout has become a well-known brand.
