Gaular is recognised for its varied cultural landscape. The Gaular watercourse runs through Gaular from the east to the west, with all its waterfalls and rapids, lakes and braided rivers. Hestad Chapel is located in Hestadgrend. The chapel as it appears today was built in 1805. We recommend you to explore the cultural heritage trail in Hestadgrend – a calm and idyllic pearl
between the many waterfalls. The trail consists of six unique cultural and natural heritage ites. Gaular is well known for the annual mountain climb ”Storehesten opp”. National Tourist Route Gaularfjell goes through the municipality. In Viksdalen you can hike the waterfall trail, which goes along the National Tourist Route. The trail is well marked and signposted, and you can start from different starting points along the trail.
