Lærdal is one of four destinations in Norway that have achieved ‘Sustainable Destination’ status, which reflects local engagement and a long-term perspective.
Borgund Stave Church, the old village of Gamle Lærdalsøyri with its 161 listed wooden buildings, and the fjord landscape inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List are among the attractions in Lærdal. This green municipality is located innermost in the Sognefjord, halfway between Oslo and Bergen.
Lærdal is a typical Western Norwegian village surrounded by tall and dramatic mountains and a lush, green cultural landscape in the valley that shows that this is an active farming community. The dry climate provides a good basis for the cultivation of fruit, berries and vegetables.
The famous Lærdalselva river that winds its way all the way from the mountain down to the majestic Sognefjord is a distinctive feature of the valley. The many experiences on offer make Lærdal the perfect starting point for a holiday by the Sognefjord.
