The unique and one of a kind Lærdal valley. Up to this date a junction point between eastern and western Norway.

When travel trough the valley you follow the world famous salmon river Lærdalselvi, all the way down to where it meet the Sognefjord.
Even the King of Norway and the king of guitar Eric Clapton, makes this river one of their favorite. Many says the old part of the village, Gamle Lærdalsøyri is the most beautiful in Norway.

The wooden buildings represent one of the most valuable building environments in Norway. The site today contains just under 170 listed buildings, built in the 18th and 19th centuries, and has received several awards.

The famous Borgund Stave Church is exceptionally well preserved and is the most distinctive stave church in Norway. Some of its finest features are the lavishly carved portals and the crosses and carvings of dragon’s heads on the roofs. Built around 1180.
Did you know a model of the Borgund stave church was made for the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889 and is today at the Musée National des Techniques in Paris?

Kongevegen (The Kings road) was built in the 1790s and was the first carriage road (horse and cart) between east and west of Norway. The road replaced the old bridle road from the Middle Ages.

You need plenty of time to catch it all when visiting Lærdal there are so many hidden gems and good stories to be told, it deserves many books by its own.
And hey!! They grow apricots, peaches, morels, strawberries, raspberries, just sayin!
