The artistic capitol of The Sognefjord

Situated on the shores of the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. The village of Balestrand is renowned for its stunning scenery.

Balestrand has long been a popular destination for travelers from all over the world due to its unique combination of alpine peaks, panoramic fjord views, architecture and rich history and tradition dating back to the Viking Age.
It was one of the first major tourist destinations in Norway, and has become particularly well-known among painters for its special fjordlight.

Balestrand is the perfect location to soak up the area’s unique history, the culture, and to enjoy the beautiful landscape.

The village is home to a variety of activities, including hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, sailing, and fishing. Balestrand also offers a number of cultural attractions, including the Kvikne's Hotel, a historic building dating back to 1877, and the St. Olaf Church, a 17th-century wooden church. Balestrand is also home to the The Norwegian Museum of Travel and Tourism. The fruit growing is a big industry, and Ciderhuset is famous for making high class international award winning Cider.
In the 19th century, Balestrand became an important center for the Norwegian Romantic Movement. Painters and writers were drawn to the area, including the famous Norwegian painter and composer Edvard Grieg.

The Tourist Information is located at the dock in Balestrand Center.
